03.29.2011: Daikaiju Discussion Godzilla vs. Megalon

The Daikaiju Discussion crew for Godzilla vs Megalon

The Daikaiju Discussion crew for Godzilla vs Megalon!

Surviving. It’s all about surviving, which is exactly what we did this month because we watched Megalon – and then we talked about it. Ok, it wasn’t that bad, but seriously, we had a lot of fun watching this movie and I was joined by Cindy, Martin, T’Igor and Jeff. The episode is online and available here.

For some insane reason, I decided that I was going to be completely respectable for this showing and try (very hard) to find nothing but good things to say about the film. I’ll let you decide how that went over because I don’t really know what to say about it other than “Megalon… it is what it is.” I don’t know if anyone even reads these anymore, so here’s what spewed forth from the Kaijucast jukebox this month…

1. “Gamera Into Space” by Tadashi Yamauchi from Daikaiju Gamera (1965)

2. “G’s Theme III” by Michiru Oshima from Godzilla X Mechagodzilla (2002)

3. “Fierceness of Varan” by Akira Ifukube from Daikaiju Varan (1958)

4. “Tell Me Again” by Juliana Schano from Gamera 3: Revenge Of Iris (1999)

Yongary 1967

April's Daikaiju Discussion subject: Yongary (1967)

Korea steps into the fray this next month with the 1967 Korean Kaiju film, Yonggary! Make sure you watch the version from the 60s and not the remake. I know this movie is available (according to my search results, it is available on Netflix), so if you already have it or can find it on DVD, I’d love to hear your take on it. This will be my first time seeing the film, so I’m going in blind and I have no idea if this is an amazing or terrible kaiju flick.

Just remember that you need to submit your thoughts, questions and reviews before the last week of the month. Just email them to me and I’ll compile the submissions for the April discussion. Feel free to let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see in future episodes or if you have a music request!
