05.13.2011: Godzilla vs Eric Powell

Eric Powell Interview

Totally NOT live from this year's Stumptown Comics Fest, I was fortunate enough to interview Eric Powell (Godzilla: Kingdom Of Monsters, The Goon) for this episode of the Kaijucast! Photo by Martin Vavra.

“It’s about time!” That’s probably what you are saying, right? Y’know… because to me, it feels like I recorded this interview with Eric Powell a million years ago! At this year’s Stumptown Comics Fest, I was fortunate enough to interview the author (or co-author, actually) of IDW Publishing’s Godzilla: Kingdom Of Monsters title about his history in comics, his work on the new Godzilla book and what we can expect in the future with this title and his upcoming release of The Goon. It was a lot of fun talking to Eric and I hope to get him on the show again after the series has been going on for a bit, but in the mean time, this should tide you over pretty well until that time.

If that weren’t enough for you, the magnanimous Heather Brask joined me tonight and, my godzilla! Things got a little goofy because I was somewhat ill-prepared… my show notes were basically chicken scratch this month because I haven’t had enough time to prep this month. You see, I’ve been prepping for my table and my Godzilla presentation at Wonder Northwest (see below). Anyway, after a significant amount of editing, I think we have another enjoyable episode (#33, which is available right here) in the can. Make sure you check out the links below to the all of the cool articles and sites that we speak of in this episode.

OMG - It's the Kaijucast's first contest ever! And, yes, you have to actually listen to the show to know what it is... muwahahahah!

LOCAL EVENTS

This weekend is the first ever Wonder Northwest takes place in Portland! And I’ll be at the show manning the Kaijucast table (which will be shared with the Going Last Podcast) in Podcast Alley. While there are LOTS of cool panels and presentations to attend, one of note to kaiju fans is happening at 11am, Sunday morning (the 15th). I’ll be presenting Godzilla A Go-Go, where I cover all of the Toho Godzilla films in a mere 45 minute time slot. Don’t ask me how I’m going to do it, because I’m not quite sure myself! If you are in the area, I’d love to meet you, so stop by the show and enjoy the convention!

DAIKAIJU DISCUSSION REMINDER

Good news and bad news, I think. Cindy and Martin have sort of talked me into watching both the Japanese AND the American versions of Godzilla Returns (aka Godzilla 1985) for this month’s Daikaiju Discussion. It will be a double feature here in the Kaijucast HQ, so we’ll be starting early. We’ll also be live tweeting with the hashtag of #kaijulivetweets – and if you want to follow along, keep an eye out on twitter and facebook for the time/date posting. This was a lot of fun when the crew here did that for Yonggary last month and when I watched Mothra vs Godzilla a couple of weekends ago. Just don’t forget to email your thoughts, questions & reviews by May 27th!

Oh, and if you decide to take part in the contest, make sure you follow the directions in the podcast (that’s right, I’m forcing you to listen to the whole thing!). Keep in touch, stay safe and watch more monster movies! That’s all for now, talk at you later this month, Kaiju fans!
