09.30.2012: Rebirth of Mothra 3 Daikaiju Discussion

Cindy, Justin, Heather and I talk about the final installment in the Heisei Mothra trilogy…. well, we sort of talk about it, but since Justin was involved, we can’t seem to keep on track.

Welcome to episode #66 of the Kaijucast, this month, the focus of our Daikaiju Discussion was the 1998 toho film (and the third in the trilogy), Rebirth of Mothra 3.  While the film has it’s flaws and is definitely aimed squarely at an underage audience, we had a lot of fun watching it… even if it didn’t get the best response from the gang here at the Kaijucast HQ. There were some pretty positive reviews from listeners, which is always great to hear/read. Thanks to all of you that submitted your homework this month. I think we witnessed a pretty strong showing from a film that has never officially been released on home video here in the States.

This is the first time in a long while that it has taken me so long to actually finish editing and posting an episode (not counting interviews done outside of the HQ), but there were some really great news bits -hopefully you already know of some-  and some really awesome local happenings. Make sure that if you are anywhere near the Portland area, you check out GeekPortland.com to help plan your nerdy schedule!

DAIKAIJU DISCUSSION:
Our next film will be the 1967 Toho classic that introduced the world to Minilla/Minya, Son Of Godzilla. In 2004, Sony released a slew of Godzilla films, including this one. Since that is the most widely available one, we shall be watching that. Normally I don’t really concern the listeners with the exact version we’ll watch, but the Sony DVD is the International version and I am pretty sure the old VHS tapes that were sold stateside had a different dub. I was going to include a link to buy the film from Amazon or some other online retailer, but the prices have been jacked WAY up by the secondary market. I know Halloween can be a crazy time for monster-lovers out there, so make sure that if you would like to be included in the discussion for October, send in your thoughts, questions & reviews (aka homework) via email before October 22nd!
