Rachel, Bryan and the Kyles discuss the a subject not often broached regarding Godzilla films: Romance.

It’s a special Valentine’s Day episode of the Kaijucast, but we aren’t talking about how much we love our significant others or even how much we adore Godzilla (any more than usual, I mean); we are discussing love themes and romantic elements in the history of Godzilla’s filmography. It’s probably not something that you would normally ponder – in fact, we tend to almost entirely ignore the human elements in these films – but considering the time of year, this subject seemed apt for this episode (too bad we didn’t actually release it yesterday).

How prevalent are romantic connections and intentions in this genre? I was pretty surprised when I started breaking it down film by film – quite a few that use a romantic entanglement as part of the human-driven plot. Thankfully, this was not a “flying solo” episode; I was joined by Bryan, Rachel and Lady Kyle for this installment of the podcast. I hope you’ll enjoy listening to our conversation as much as we had recording it.
