08.31.2015: Monster X Strikes Back Attack the G8 Summit Daikaiju Discussion
Kyle, Rachel, Bryan and Sean dive into the kaiju parody Monster X Strikes Back/Attack the G8 Summit in this month’s Daikaiju Discussion!
The sequel no one asked for! This month’s Daikaiju Discussion film is the 2008 Monster X Strikes Back / Attack the G8 Summit and it’s another bizarre entry in the genre. This is a film that showed up with very little fanfare or backstory. Directed by Minoru Kawasaki, this film could be a loving tribute to the kaiju genre, resurrecting Shochiku’s space chicken Guilala but it plays out as a very, very long and drawn out political cartoon that just happens to have a couple of monsters that destroy some stuff and then fight at the end. Overall, we didn’t really care for it, but the conversation was good.
The discussioneers who joined Kyle for this installment of the Kaijucast were regulars Rachel and Bryan – but we were in rare form as long-lost-voice-from-the-past Sean Donahue resurfaced and also endure the groans induced by this parody sequel.
I would normally say that this was a brief episode, but it was a big month for the Kaijucast! This was the third regular episode and we posted a commentary. Plus throughout the rest of the year, we are slated to have three episodes a month. Maybe I should retire the term “bi-monthly” in the future?
